The Thursday Dispatch - 7 May 2026

Café to café.

I’ve been doing these Thursday posts for damn near a year now. Most weeks, I leave home to do my writing, as I find I just need to change my space a bit to focus. I also need to get away from my cat sometimes. I love the little guy, but sometimes he can be a bit too forceful looking for attention.

I’m writing this piece this morning from Roast Coffeehouse in Aksarben (that’s Nebraska backwards, because we’re clever here). I was going to try checking out the new Central Library here in Omaha, but parking is still a nightmare there. I think it’ll be a little bit more time before the newness rolls off that place.

Mostly, I hit coffee shops. The majority of these posts have been written from the Starbucks across the street from my apartment. But, with me trying to discover new places around the metro and support more local places over giant corporations, I’m attempting to check out more unique places. This search has become part of the ritual of writing.

I generally look for a place with a good feel. I like moody spaces with low light as they tend to relax me more. But, I also prefer places where I can stretch out a little. It’s for this reason I’m currently typing from the patio of this café, off in the corner and under an umbrella. Frankly, I’m really liking doing this outside right now.

This is one of those mornings where I have little on my mind, which is a bit of a relief. My brain has been chaos for the past month, so having my mind be in a quiet state is rather nice. I have a few errands to run, but otherwise nothing to really worry about at the moment. I just want to spend the rest of the day in this state of peace.

I went to a baseball game last weekend. Not really a bad seat in this place and the vibe was just the right kind of chill for me. No reason to take this game seriously, yet I’m watching guys on the brink of the Major Leagues.

Songs in the Chaos

This is my weekly list of songs that either caught my attention or came to mind this past week. I post these throughout the week on a site called Crucial Tracks, where they’re also added to a playlist on Apple Music. Feel free to follow me on either space.
