The Thursday Dispatch - 30 April 2026
The weather where I live has been reasonable as of late. Barely warm enough in the afternoon to break a sweat while on a walk. Cool in the mornings, where you can barely see your breath. It’s my sweet spot.
An extra layer of excitement has hit me as I can finally sit outside at my apartment, thanks to my balcony being replaced. I’ve lived in this place for a little over a year, and this will be the first time I’ll be able to enjoy it.
Since moving in, the balconies were deemed unsafe due to general wear and tear over the years. You can add in a ton of sun damage on my side of the building, since my side gets blasted all afternoon as I face southwesterly. Where the sun is good for keeping my apartment warm during the winter and keeping my mood generally up throughout the year, it’s hell on the wooden balcony. With that wear, birds also found places to nest, and the last thing I wanted was to be dive-bombed when I’m just trying to relax.
All of that has been replaced now with new metal railings. All we’re waiting for now is a city inspection to deem it safe. I’m looking forward to mornings having coffee outside while I journal or simply embrace the quiet. I’m eager to get some string lights to make the space mine. This is a place I want to be able to spend some time. Maybe it’ll keep me from going to coffee shops as much. Now I can leave home without ever really leaving home.

I saw a heron while out on my walk yesterday. Little moments of magic like this are why I like getting outside. I never know what I’ll notice while I’m out there.

Songs in the Chaos
This is my weekly list of songs that either caught my attention or came to mind this past week. I post these throughout the week on a site called Crucial Tracks, where they’re also added to a playlist on Apple Music. Feel free to follow me on either space.
