On feeling music.
The Thursday Dispatch - 19 March 2025
Death Cab For Cutie performing in Omaha, 2014

I totally changed my mind on what I wanted to write about today. I’ve got music on my mind, so I’m writing about that.

I need to go to live shows again. The last show I went to, I believe, was Dropkick Murphy’s at the Holland Theatre in Omaha, during what was an acoustic tour for the band. They were performing all these shows in theaters usually reserved for plays and musicals, since they provide warmer acoustics. It was a good show.

Since then, I’ve passed up on numerous shows for numerous reasons. I had to work, I couldn’t afford it at the time, I didn’t have anyone to go with, I prefer a smaller venue, and on and on. I need to see live music. It’s just a different experience and it’s the best way to give back to the artists I love.

So, here’s a list of shows in my area that are on my radar:

  • Tech N9ne/E-40
  • The Black Keys
  • Band of Horses
  • Dinosaur Jr.
  • Juvenile
  • Keri Hilson/Lyfe Jennings
  • Earl Sweatshirt
  • Death Cab for Cutie
  • Young the Giant

I’m surely not going to all of those shows, but I should be able to do at least a few of them. Now, who’s coming with me?

I’m writing this from Archetype Coffee Co in Omaha. They make a pretty cortado. I’ll share more on them soon.

This Past Week

Songs in the Chaos

This is my weekly list of songs that either caught my attention or came to mind this past week. I post these throughout the week on a site called Crucial Tracks, where they’re also added to a playlist on Apple Music. Feel free to follow me on either space.
