Otter Avatars
A few years ago, I noticed quite a few people on the Mastodon instance I’m on using some very similar, but personalized avatars. At first, I wondered if there was an app or some kind of generator making these, but it ended up being an artist by the name of Andy Carolan commissioning them out.
So I had one made for a small fee and gave Andy the information he needed to get started on it. We went back and forth a little, making adjustments and refinements. He really wants to get these things right for you. Eventually, I had an avatar made to my liking with multiple backgrounds that I ended up using across social media platforms, something I prefer over using a picture of myself. I like a little bit of anonymity online.

Fast forward a couple of years, and I’ve decided to commission Andy again for some avatars. This time, I want to be recreated as a sea otter. Thanks to a good friend of mine, I’ve developed a love of otters of all kinds, but especially sea otters. They’re just adorable animals, with how they look and their mannerisms. They’re basically aquatic teddy bears.
My ask of Andy this go-around was the same outfit as before, but I wanted a couple of different hats since I like two different baseball teams and can settle a little more on one than the other depending on my mood. Down the road, I’ll ask for some different hats as different sports come into season along with some things for holidays. Where I want to play around as well is putting different photos as backgrounds to the transparent versions of the avatars I’ve received.

If you ever want an avatar like this, reach out to Andy on Ko-Fi. He’s a pleasure to work with and will work to get you exactly what you want.
