My Morning Automation
Every morning, I run an automation through my phone as soon as I bring my phone out of sleep mode. The automation turns my lights on, 5% in the bedroom, and 40% in the living room. That helps me from not tripping over the cat.

But, the other thing the automation does is turn on some music on the living room HomePod, in which case I have it stream KEXP, Seattle’s public radio station. I love this because instead of the TV screen staring back at me with its blinding light and the stress of the world, I get a radio station with one of the widest selections anywhere. I often discover something new, look it up, and add it to my rotation.
This complements my routines of feeding the cat, making coffee, and journaling first thing in the morning, usually in that order. From there, I may do a little deeper writing (like I’m doing now) either in iA Writer or DayOne. It’s rather nice to be able to live within myself before dealing with the outside world.
