Moving Old Blog Posts
I finally got around to trying to move some old blog posts over to this site. A little history is necessary. Up until a little over a year ago, I hosted my site on a little service called Micro.blog. It was this blend of short-form and long-form posts that reacted well to both. For me, it was an option that wasn’t Twitter, as I tried to limit my social media use due to the toxicity of the platforms. For the most part, it was quieter while still offering some community. It did the job for a time.
Then came some controversies. One of their devs is a homophobic douche. Their founder basically just tried to sweep it under the rug by trying to show support for the dev while still trying to claim he was an ally. It fell flat for a lot of people, including myself. So, I started exploring new platforms and hosts, which led me to moving my domain to a new site hosted by Magic Pages that runs on the Ghost platform.
What the move to Ghost did was put me in a position to only write longer-form content, meaning every post has a title, as Ghost doesn’t really handle titleless posts well at all. This meant none of the old Twitter-esque status posts that I used to send to my site. As a result, I’ve become more thoughtful with my writing and I feel like better overall. I’ve been happy with the change.
One hangup I’ve had though is moving my old longform posts away from Micro.blog. For a service that touted open web values and being able to pick up my site and move to wherever, there’s no straightforward way to do this from that service to Ghost. So, I swallowed my pride and paid for a month of Claude and had AI do the dirty work for me. I’ve only moved posts from 2024 so far, but I was able to feed Claude my archive and have it sift out all the longform posts in a way I can open them in my writing app of choice, iA Writer. It’s working nicely. All I have to do from there is a few small edits and I can publish, adjusting the published dates as needed and tagging properly.
My goal is to have this site be my public hub. I can slow down and think here. I’m not distracted by other posts. It’s how I process, just out loud. That said, I’m also very critical of myself at times, and I feel like there’s a distinct difference in my writing from 2025 to now, compared to most everything before 2025. Before, my longform posts would come from me just having more to say than 500 characters. With my posts now, I think about them more; I’ll stew over an idea for days if not weeks, then I’ll actually plan what order I want to talk about things. The only exception to this is my Thursday posts, where I will free write, as those are meant to be an exercise of what’s on my mind right now.
All of that said, there are some posts from 2024 that didn’t make it because they were just shit to me in my opinion. Maybe I’m being too hard on myself. Maybe they’ll make their way onto here sometime down the road. But for now, I’m not willing to let average material onto here when I’ve been putting my best foot forward for most of the last 18 months.
With that in mind, feel free to dig around on here. I’ll continue adding things back on here in times when I’m bored. And I’ll continue writing about what’s on my mind or the things I enjoy. I’m happy for anyone who has come along for the ride.
