About

Hi, I’m Skoobs. Birth name is Steve. You can put together where the alias came from if you’ve seen the movie Big Daddy. It doesn’t go any deeper than that.

I’m originally from the Seattle area, grew up in Florida, and have spent most of the last three decades in eastern Nebraska. I’m in a lead position at a retail establishment. I tried getting into web design, but I was an artist and was too sensitive about my shit in those days. I then tried getting into IT, the pandemic hit, then I basically aged out of it. So, I’m focused on making the best out of my current situation and making it my passion. If I had a dream job, I’d be DJing.

But, I still get the creative bug, in which I flush most of that out by writing and occasionally photography. Most of my writing will focus around my quest for peace, tech, music, sometimes the weather, and whatever else interests me in the moment that I think is interesting enough to share. With photography, my main focuses are street photography and nature/weather. I’m currently shooting with an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a Canon EOS Rebel T7. I’m still working on techniques, but feel I have a pretty good eye. My photography page is hosted by Glass. It’s a paid community, but a great one.

Why Have a Blog in 2026?

I have a few reasons for this.

First, social media sucks. I find much more value being able to post here than anything on social media. Social media doesn't allow for deep thought and conversation. It's short bursts, meant to create a reaction, and rarely has any substance. This leaves it coming off as extremely performative to me and that's not anything I want to be around. Beyond this, socials tend to bury my posts, including the ones I've shared from this site. If it were truly a thing that helped me connect with the people I care about, that would be great. But, social media has devolved into a content management system meant to push whatever it thinks will create engagement. It thinks wrong when it comes to catching up with my friends, as it doesn't do any of that at all.

Second, this site is therapeutic for me. I'm allowed to create from the heart, whether that's a short essay or a photograph. I have no likes and, as of January 1, 2026, no analytics. I have no clue of how many hits a post gets anymore. I also don't have comments on this page, instead inviting you to email or text me (if you're my personal friend) your response. Close friends are welcome to have a cup of coffee and discuss. Point being, I don't write to impress anyone but myself.

Lastly, it's peaceful here. I do my writing in iA Writer, one of the most minimalist interfaces I've ever come across. It stays out of my way, allowing me to focus on my words, yet gets the job done. Then there's this site itself. It's a clean interface that's nice to look at and easy to read. To me, it's much better than looking at the shitty interfaces of Meta websites.

So, that's why I have a blog. I think you should too. Joan Westenberg wrote about this subject on their blog that sums it up better than me: It's a great read:
